If you’re vegan, love makeup or are mildly obsessed with Gwyneth Paltrow, you’ll be happy to hear the actress has officially launched an organic cosmetics line with Juice Beauty. Gwyneth is known for her clean, healthy lifestyle, and as Creative Director of the brand, she worked to create 78 pieces for the line — from the formula to the packaging — including liquid lipsticks and a skin-blurring primer.
I had the opportunity to sit down with the Oscar winner and mother of two to discuss why she chose Juice Beauty, the inspiration behind naming the products — the lipsticks are named after her girlfriends, like Drew, Cameron and Chelsea, while the lip creams are named after her favorite wines — and learned just how much she knows about the beauty industry. “Most pigments in lipsticks are crushed insects or lead. Red lipstick is lead,” said Paltrow, explaining that the Phyto-Pigments (the namesake of the line) were created with crushed flowers, which gives a gorgeous color payoff without sacrificing the integrity of the product.
