Global Fast Food Chain German Doner Kebab Launches 8 Plant-Based Options in 140 Locations – vegconomist

German Doner Kebab (GDK), one of the fastest-growing restaurant groups in the UK, with over 150 restaurants across the UK, mainland Europe, and the Middle East, and expanding in the USA, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Ireland, has launched eight plant-based options based on Nestlé-owned Garden Gourmet’s Vegan Pulled Fillet.

Known for its distinctive doner kebab waffle bread, GDK describes the new plant-based offerings as a milestone move. The renamed ‘OV Kebab’ is a newly developed dish featuring the Garden Gourmet meat alternative, served on toasted waffle bread and served with fresh lettuce, red cabbage, sliced onions, tomatoes, and GDK’s three signature sauces – yogurt, garlic, and spicy.

The Glasgow-based brand states that this widespread offering “follows the rise in demand for plant-based products in the fast food scene”. For context, kebabs are a British fast food staple said to be the fourth most popular take-out dish in the UK, and there are more than 17,000 kebab outlets around the country.

Redefining the kebab experience

Dr Thorsk Westphal, GDK Global CMO, states, “This development was an exciting challenge. Partnering with Nestlé Professional’s GARDEN GOURMET® is a significant next step for us here at GDK. We are and always have been dedicated to redefining the kebab experience, prioritising quality and fresh ingredients to deliver a premium experience.

“This collaboration expands the availability of vegetarian options by offering a plant-based version of all of our fan favourites. Whether customers want to reduce their meat intake for the month, have recently switched to a plant-based diet or are just intrigued to try new things – we want them to know they can still have an elevated meal that will set taste buds alight. Don’t just take our word for it!”

GDK’s new plant-based doner meat is now available in 140 UK locations as well as on the GDK app and Just Eat, UberEats and Deliveroo.
