Animal Protein vs Plant Protein – Which is Better?

Share with someone who needs to know these simple facts about plant-based protein! 🌱✨

Proteins play a crucial role in our body—they help build, maintain and repair our tissues.💪

Now, how much protein you need in a day depends on several factors: your age, activity level, muscle mass and more. 🧠🏋️‍♀️

However, as per a joint report by the World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the United Nations University, for adults leading a moderately active or sedentary lifestyle, the protein needed is 0.83 grams per kilogram of body weight.

So, if you’re an adult, to figure out your daily protein needs, just multiply your weight in kilograms by 0.83.

This means that for someone weighing around 60 kg, their protein requirement will be around 50 grams in a day.

A variety of whole plant-based foods are easily capable of satisfying these needs. 🌾

To provide some context:
🍛 One cup of cooked lentils has 18 grams of protein.
🍲 One cup of cooked chickpeas gives you 15 grams.
🌱 One cup of cooked kidney beans gives you 15 grams.
🥬 A cup of green veggies? About 8 grams.
🥜 A handful of nuts adds another 6 grams.
🍚 One cup of whole grains contributes around 5 grams.

Typical Indian meals are rich in lentils, grains and veggies, and can easily provide us the protein we need. 🥗

Those who do intense workouts or need more protein can easily increase their intake of lentils, legumes, nuts, seeds, etc. to meet their requirement. 🏋️‍♂️💪

Lastly, while it’s important to be aware of your protein intake, there’s no need to obsess over the exact gram count daily. ✔️

We believe that food is much more than just numbers, or fragmented nutrients. However, we have provided the breakdowns for those keen on understanding.🌟
